Help for Haiti
I have an amazing story to tell about an amazing 10 year old boy and his quest to help Haiti. As I am writing this post tears are seriously welling up in my eyes. Not to mention I'm listening to "We Are The World 25" a remake done by tons of artists. When you download the song all proceeds go to help Haiti. Now back to my story. A friend of mine, who I teach with, invited my family to her son's 10th birthday party. My girls love her kids and I was stoked to go. I asked her what her son would like for his birthday, that's when she got choked up and told me this wonderful story. After watching a 60 minute special on Haiti, her son Kyle, decided he wanted to donate any toys he got for his birthday to the kids in Haiti. After doing a little research Catherine, Mom, couldn't really figure out how she would ship or donate all these toys to Haiti. So she suggested to Kyle that he ask for monetary donations for his birthday instead. His parents agreed to match any donations he received. When we arrived at their house for Kyle's birthday party he had a shoe box labeled "Help for Haiti". He collected our donations and put them in the shoe box. After the party Kyle counted up all the money he received that night and then his parents matched him. He raised almost $400.00 dollars for Haiti. Wait - the story's not over yet. While reading the newspaper one morning Catherine came across an ad for Harmon's (a local grocery chain here in Utah) that said they would match donations to Haiti. Kyle took his donations to Harmon's and walked right up to the customer service booth and told him he had money for Haiti. The customer service attendant took out a coupon booklet that was filled with $5.00 dollar coupons to match donations. Kyle started to count out his donations, astonished the attendant stopped him and said, "I'm going to need more coupon books." She was in tears by the time Kyle had counted out all the money he had raised. Overall Kyle was able to raise $800.00 dollars for Haiti. Kyle is just an ordinary 4th grader who wanted to do something extra ordinary for a country in need. I am a better person for knowing this amazing kid and for having a hand in teaching kids who will hopefully one day be as generous and giving as Kyle. Kyle is one person whose donations, I'm sure, were able to feed hundreds of Haitians. If one small boy is able to do so much imagine what we as a nation could achieve.

Holy cow! That was such a touching story that I could still well up with tears while my 3 year old is screaming and crying for milk. Seriously amazing. Such an example. I'm so glad you shared that!
